About Car Insurance

There are lots of different types of insurance, and our local agents are well equipped to handle your needs.

Insurance
n·sur·ance
/inˈSHo͝orəns/

noun

  1. a practice or arrangement by which a company or government agency provides a guarantee of compensation for specified loss, damage, illness, or death in return for payment of a premium.

Insurance. We know what it is. We know we may not like it. We know we need it.

When you have the unfortunate experience of having an accident, there can be a few factors that determine how your claim is covered, and how your rates may be affected.

Winter months can be challenging. More darkness means less visibility, Icy roads make driving more dangerous. Road salts and sand can damage windshields.

If you have COLLISION COVERAGE, your vehicle is covered for damages, regardless of who’s to blame. Some misunderstandings happen when you swerve to avoid an object and hit something, while you may have done everything in your power to avoid it, you are still at fault, and are 100 percent responsible. While you may not like to hear that, your collision coverage is there to take care of you.

COMPREHENSIVE COVERAGE is also known as “non-moving coverage”. This type of coverage protects you if your car is stolen, you hit a deer, or animal, storm damage, flood damage, vandalism, and glass damage (most policies have no deductible for glass repair or replacement) One of the more common, avoidable things we have seen this time of year are car thefts. Be sure that when you go to get your morning cup of coffee, you don’t leave your car running unattended with your keys inside. Make sure you lock your car, and don’t leave packages in plain sight. Contents inside your car are not covered by your car insurance.

All insurance policies have a deductible. The deductible is the amount of money you agreed to pay upfront for repairs before the insurance company kicks in to pay for the rest. So, if your car is damaged and repairs are going to run about $3000, having a $500 deductible means you will be covered for everything minus the $500. Adjusting your deductible affects your premium, and that is one of the things that qualified insurance specialists can help you with.

As with any type of insurance, you really don’t want to use it unless you have to. Safe driving is the sure way to keep insurance costs down. Talk to us about how we can adjust your deductible to suit your financial needs,

With over 20 years in the insurance industry, these areas are some of the more common topics that I have helped people with, and I hope this brief article helps you as well.
